Early Life and Athletic Beginnings

Born on April 26, 1980, in Cullman, Alabama, Channing Matthew Tatum was raised by his mother, Kay (an airline worker), and his father, Glenn (a construction worker). During his youth, Tatum was highly active, participating in sports such as football, soccer, baseball, and martial arts. He attended Tampa Catholic High School, where he was voted "most athletic," and later received a football scholarship to Glenville State College in West Virginia. However, he left college to pursue other interests, including modeling and acting. ​

Transition to Entertainment

Before his acting career, Tatum worked as a model, appearing in campaigns for brands like Abercrombie & Fitch and Dolce & Gabbana. He also worked as a dancer in nightclubs, an experience that would later inspire his role in Magic Mike.

Tatum's film debut came with a role in Coach Carter (2005), but his breakout performance was in Step Up (2006), where he showcased his dance skills. Tatum married actress Jenna Dewan in 2009, and they have a daughter named Everly, born in 2013. The couple separated in 2018. He later dated singer Jessie J and was engaged to actress Zoë Kravitz before their split in 2024. As of 2025, Tatum is in a relationship with Australian model Inka Williams. ​
